We ran 23k today in Monterreycillo - did the Abejas trail along with the Suspiros trail. Carlos George asked me "if this was my favorite place in the Laguna" and to be honest it is my favorite place in Mexico. I miss my northern Wisconsin trails with their lush green forests, the brilliant fall colors (followed by brown) and the snow - but there is a magic in the desert that must be experienced to appreciate. When I go home for good I will miss this place - it certainly puts me in a happy place, even when my friends run me into the ground - I definitely was the weak link today.
We ran here once when there were tiny frogs on the trail. It was the middle of an unusually rainy time - what do those frogs do now? Where do they hide? Often there is a plethora of wild flowers (today none) that mesmerize me. I have seen snakes, rabbits, mice and horrific wasps. The views are amazing. This place never disappoints - my pictures, well often they disappoint me.
Ran with my awesome Mexican friends; Carlos George, Grace, Benny and Perla. Joining us was Romeo and Abraham (cousin of one my students, who by the way is awesome). All in all it was a freaking great day in a great place in an amazing country. Fortunately it's only 45 minutes from our home.
I love you Mexico!!
