I've been doing as much of the North Country Trail in the Chequamegon - Nicolet National Forest as I can. I actually hope to do all of the Wisconsin parts of the trail this summer, but we'll see. The more I run of the trail the farther I have to drive to get to different sections. I only plan to run the actual trail, I have no desire to do connecting links. For those of you unfamiliar with the NCT, it is more of an idea than an actual trail. It stretches 4,600 miles (7,360 km) from North Dakota to Vermont. I have no idea how much of the trail is complete but it will take years to complete. I am fortunate to live so close to it and to have lived so close to the Ice Age Trail when we lived in Two Rivers.
Today I did 10k, 5k out and 5k back from the Lake Three Trailhead (west) -mile marker WI - 155.5. It was truly an amazing section of the trail, dry, well marked and easily runnable - not to mention it was 60 degrees (beats the hell out of the snow last Sunday)

Parts of the forest floor were carpeted with these beautiful flowers.
I didn't even notice the bee when I took the picture.
